Edward Albee: Speaking with a Deer in the Garden in East Hampton, an Improvisational Performance

Edward Albee, award-winning playwright stepped on stage to give a series of improvisational performances for the benefit of longhouse Reserve on July 10, 1999. A long-time resident, Albee does most of his writing in Montauk, NY, where he remains an avid supporter of longhouse Reserve. In this performance Mr. Albee plays an East Hampton resident speaking to a dear in the garden. Mr. Albee uses a proven technique to define the characters he creates by incorporating audience suggestions as a point of departure for his dramatic sketches. Since Albee’s first play, “The Zoo Story” premiered in 1959 in Berlin, he has been active in the theatre ever since. His first full-length play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” has been performed over 600 times. The master playwright has won three Pulitzer Prizes, two Tony’s, as well as a Drama Critics Circle Award and an Outer Circle Critics Award. Produced by Neal Marshad.
